| Firecomms is developing products
that are based on reseach carried out at the NMRC at
Cork. Their products include an innovative light source
suitable for low cost optical communications. |
| The optical firewire transceiver
makes use of plastic optical fibre required to meet
the IEEE1348b specification. This makes possible short
range networking at speeds of upto 200MBS over distances
of upto 100 meters. These transceivers are aimed at
the expanding market for digital cameras, camcorders
and scanners, where it is neccessary to transfer large
files at high speed. |
| The involvement of GX in the project
has been the design of the transmit and receive circuitry,
production of PCBs and development of precision plastic
components, following on from the optical systems analysis. |
