| An unusual challenge was presented
to GX in developing a new computer workstation for use
with electron microscope equipment. Feedback from installation
engineers building their previous sytems, expressed
a desire to be able to build the desks outside of the
rooms they are to be used in. This required the workstations
to be wheeled front ways through conventional doorways,
then expanded out to the required width. |
| Once the units are in the rooms they
are loaded with Oxford's processing modules, a PC, monitor
and printer. A drawer was incorporated to provide a
place for their operating manual and disks, cable managment
was built into the rear removing the large quantity
of cabling from sight. Not only did the workstation
require width adjustment but height adjustment also,
as the desktops needed to be level with a variety of
electron microscope workstations. Where space is at
a premium and the operator sits at the adjacent microscope
desk, the workstations width can be retracted, giving
a minimal footprint, and act as a storage unit and monitor
stand. To complete the total flexibility of the workstation
the PC cabinet and extension table may be assembled
on either the left or right hand side |
| The overall effect was a better integrated
package, providing a complete system and raised perception
of quality. |
