| Amersham International PLC has developed
a reagent which emits minute quantities of light when
introduced into a sample containing bacteria. The intensity
of light emitted may be used as a measure of hygiene,
for example in food preparation areas. A photon counter
is required to detect this light; such instruments are
traditionally large and expensive. |
| GX were asked to design an instrument
to target the large reagent market. To achieve this,
a low cost hand-held instrument was needed. Over 100,000
units have been made and distributed. The manufacturing
cost was low enough for instruments to given away as
part of large reagent contracts. |
