CLP APOLLO PCR CYCLER

PCR thermal cyclers are used extensively in DNA research. Scientists require precise and rapid temperature changes in their research and chemistry experiments.

GX established during the Phase 1 Feasibility Study that Thermal Electric Coolers (TECs/Peltier devices) offered the most effective means of delivering highly accurate temperature control. Extruded heat sinks that rapidly cool and heat the plates that house the PCR tubes were originally utilised in “bread board” experiments. However, GX proved that performance could be improved by creating undulating fins on the heatsink and this approach was used in the production device.

Advanced electronic hardware and software design was designed by GX to achieve extremely high performance. GX also undertook the mechanical and all the detail design of the instrument. GX generated the manufacturing data GX including 3D CAD data of mouldings, sheet metal and castings as well as the software and hardware information.

This project involved all design and engineering disciplines at GX.
