This professional ID Badging, Membership,
and Loyalty Card printer using dye-sublimation colour printing
technology has recently been launched by Ultra Electronics
Card Systems based in Weymouth, UK. |
| The printer makes extensive
use of plastic mouldings and features consumable loading via
an RFID ( radio frequency identity ) protected drop-in dyefilm
cassette and an associated card dispenser for new blank cards. |
| |
Amazingly, Alto weighs only
3Kg and is capable of downloading and printing very rapidly,
a full colour portrait ID card in only 30 seconds. |
| |
The Alto can be interfaced to a PC using
a plug & play USB interface, and software
is available to design cards and capture portraits using a
simple Webcam. |
| |
GX Design Engineers of Usk was selected
to work with Ultra and their in-house team of engineers to
carry out the design of the complex polymer mouldings from
which the Alto is constructed. GX’s styling brought
a family feel to Alto and the ergonomics have brought simplicity
to loading and feeding operations. Developments involved 3D
CAD modelling, Finite Element Analysis and rapid prototyping
with the MEC at Cardiff University. |
| |
The extensive use of advanced engineering
plastics throughout has brought considerable advantages to
Alto. Some of these are : Reduced parts count and simpler
assembly which lead to reductions in manufacturing costs,
increased strength and tremendous reductions in weight. All
these factors work together to ensure a highly successful
product whose sales are climbing rapidly in international
markets. |
